Interested in Becoming a Tax Volunteer?

ARE YOU A FUTURE TAX VOLUNTEER?
If you want to enrich your life by sharing your skills and contributing to community, please support our mission to provide tax assistance and promote the economic self-sufficiency of low- and moderate-income families.

In addition to tax volunteers, we also need volunteers to serve as:

  • tax trainers
  • client screeners
  • computer techs
  • data entry clerks
  • Spanish and Arabic translators
  • and as administrative support.

Please check with us in the fall, 2008 for more information about training workshops.
Traditionally, we need the bulk of our volunteers each year for the regular late-January through mid-April tax season.

You can see first-hand what it's like being a volunteer by watching our video, which features interviews with volunteers as well as clients.  To view it, go back to our home page, and click on "our video" on the left.

We are extremely grateful to our volunteers for a great 2008 tax season.  This year more than 700 volunteers donated over 12,000 hours of their time. Each volunteer hour brought back $757 in tax refunds and credits to the community. In all, volunteers helped bring back more than $10.8 million to southeastern Michigan.  See our 2008 Fast Facts for more details.

Our FAQs about volunteering will answer most of your questions.

You can also read some first-person accounts about being a tax volunteer and meet a few of our clients.
